Jacobsen has supplied turf equipment to the Links at Sleepy Ridge since it first opened, and will be complemented by E-Z-GO golf cars.

Golf is played as an individual sport, but when it comes to equipping a golf course with golf cars and turf equipment, it takes a team effort. And when your golf cars, turf equipment and financing arm from the same company, you have a team that can get things done quickly for the customer.

The folks at the Links at Sleepy Ridge in Orem, Utah know what the Textron team can do. The golf club recently switched its fleet of golf cars to E-Z-GO, complementing its array of Jacobsen turf equipment. The $750,000 deal was financed through Textron Financial, making the whole process very smooth for all involved.

“I couldn’t be happier with how everyone came together,” says Golden Holt, the developer of the Links at Sleepy Ridge. “Everyone at Textron and their distributors made my life a lot easier.”

A “Textron golf course”

Since the golf course opened in 2004, it relied on Jacobsen equipment for its turf care needs. When Holt began to talk with the local distributor, RMT Equipment, about a new lease agreement for Jacobsen equipment, he also looked at switching his fleet of gas-powered golf cars to the electric E-Z-GO RXVs, which have developed a reputation for game-changing technology.

The fact that both E-Z-GO and Jacobsen were Textron businesses with high-quality turf equipment and golf cars that could be packaged as one deal financed through Textron Financial was a concept that appealed to Holt.

“Having their turf equipment and golf cars and making one payment per month to one lender made a lot of sense to him,” says Mike Ryan, the national marketing manager for TFC’s golf equipment finance division who works with Jacobsen. “He gets one bill from us and writes one check.”

Working together to keep and create business

The partnership between the E-Z-GO and Jacobsen dealers in Utah came out of a concerted effort by the three Textron companies to get distributors to think outside the box and work with one another in their local areas, says Steve Coleman, the national marketing manager for TFC’s golf equipment finance division who works with E-Z-GO.

It also helps to have strong local distributors who provide customer and technical service to its customers. In this case, both E-Z-GO and Jacobsen’s distributors – Highland Golf and RMT Equipment, respectively, are well-respected in their local markets with fully-stocked inventories and a reputation for outstanding service to their customers.

Coleman and Ryan have worked together to share best practices with their respective dealers in order to build on the successes of each business.

“We want the entire Textron package at our golf courses at every opportunity,” Coleman says.

“Customers see the three businesses, but one company,” adds Ryan. “To them, it says Textron and it’s very easy to deal with one company.”

“To me, it all boils down to service, whether it’s RMT Equipment, Highland Golf or Textron, and I’ve been able to count on them to be there for me every step of the way,” says Holt.
