The Providence Journal talks with Textron CEO Lewis Campbell about the company's rise from its start as the Special Yarns Corporation through founder Royal Little's diversification strategy that made Textron the first multi-industry company to Campbell's own decision to transform the company. "Textron, Campbell decided, could no longer afford to be a caretaker of compartmentalized companies. Instead, it had to become a network of units that adjusted to, and even moved ahead of, customer needs and marketplace forces."
